At the second Flinders Aesthetic Forum on 19th September, guest speaker Alice C Helliwell (University of Kent) delivered her talk: “Art-ificial: Creative AI or imitation artist?”
On the night, Alice asked whether Artificial Intelligence (AI) art is the next big thing. She posed the question: Is AI really creating new and exciting artworks, or is it just replicating human art?
In the presentation, Alice dove into the world of AI art and explored whether AI is really being creative, or if it’s all just media hype. To do this, she reviewed some AI systems and reviewed what is really going on in their algorithms. She also applied philosophical theories of creativity to these AI systems, to see how they measure up.
